Resignation

We received a letter from Max our club liaison officer due to work commitments he is unable to carry on the job.

We wish to thank him very much for his work and wish him well.  Fe to pass this on.

New Rep

Bill asked us to consider Aínè’s proposal to be Rep.  See later

NC Report

Ian Moore from Weston-Super-Mare attended on Saturday 8th April 2000

Nobody is to attend on their own again as it is a very long day and tiring.

a.

Marriot & Co to take on lapsed members after 6 months – they will charge £8 to chase them up and if they do not get results we will not pay.  £8 charge is the same as what it costs us to process a membership.  Hopefully this will get members back currently 45% do not renew.

b.

Feelings at NC level is that grass root members are not happy with decision making process.  What is the matter?  Why are people not happy?  Neil L. does not run it he just happens to be the spokesman at this time.

We have to make people understand that their opinions can be heard either direct to Neil L through Mag Central, local and regional reps.  You have your rights use them!

c.

Regional Reps from the 17th May 2000 are allowed to have database of membership.  It must however be secured by password and not passed on to any one else.  Data Protection Regulations.

If we wish to do mail outs we must fill envelopes and pass to regional reps to address.

d.

Amber Rescue are to be dropped.  Eastgate are taking over 6-wheel cover policy – not personal membership.

Henry Marks is contacting every one who joined the 6 wheel policy to confirm they are still covered

e.

Mag Insurance – come back is very good – we have been passed £8,000 profit so far this year.

Henry Marks is still working to secure better deal for Mag.

f.

Licence Loss insurance cover – dropped.  Only one person took it up.

.g.

Fitness Club and Wines and beer offers dropped.

h.

MBNA girls sell credit cards and it has been suggested that we employ them (commission) to sell memberships and other related products (travel insurance etc) at the big shows.

i.

Procedures are not being followed eg, identity cards and NC agenda.  Regional will be responsible for keeping details of local reps etc.

Email Neil directly to get a matter on the NC Agenda.  Following procedure means information gets to the correct person.

j.

Mag UK web page is crap.  To bring us into the 21st Century we are employing a web consultant to run the page, the corporate members who advertise will have links direct to their own pages and it will be fully interactive.  Mag have purchased a selection of web sites “Street Biker and MAG UK” to stop other people from using them.

k.

Bike 2000 is on 22nd July – issues

Think Bike Campaign, Fuel Prices, Telematics , Steal a Bike go to Jail.

There are also mass runs at the Scottish and Welsh Assemblies at the same time/date.

Meet 2pm at Trafalgar Square 22nd July 2000 details to follow of meeting point for MASS RUN.

l.

Barrier Campaign/FEMA

We were asked to join the anti wire campaign, but studies have shown that wire is actually safer than armco barriers.

Now drop this campaign.

m.

Local Transport – Plans are due at central government by end of August.  PTW’s need to be in strategic plans.  We must be included.  Soundwell Council have a transport plan booklet that includes PTW’s.  This will be available from Phil Neil (Mag Central) or Mag web site.

We must get copies of this transport plan and take to our councils.  They should be very interested as all the hard work has already been done.

n.

From October CBT – has life of 2 years – no one-year ban.  You can take the part 2 test as many times as you like within the 2 year period. New theory test for car to include bike awareness and new theory for bikes to include hazard perception (road conditions etc)

As from October you cannot automatically ride a trike on a bike licence

Moped issues – continue to be able to drive on car licence but will need CBT

MCI are financially supporting and heavily promoting voluntary training – like people returning to biking after an absence

Someone to clarify if existing bike licence holders can still ride trikes after Oct 2000.

o.

Mag finances – holding their own – just

Make money at Mag events and send to Central

p.

There is a new way of advertising all our events.  Ian Much has e-mail, which will go to every motorcycle publication in the UK.  This is very good.

E-mail Ian with your event details at:

Ianmutch.magnews@mag-uk.org

q.

Products – generally doing very, £12k turnover so far.  Bill from Northeast deserves praise.

Well done Bill.

r.

Speed Limits – Mag policy is to support all speed limits where appropriate.  Once a speed limit has been imposed we can still fight to get it changed if it is inappropriate.

Fight where limits are inappropriate – both before and after imposition.

s.

Youth Projects – Mag supports various projects throughout the country.  In the Western Region we do not seem to have any.

Look for some projects – a good way of getting youngsters interested in us.

t.

New Mag leaflets for :- Membership, travel insurance, credit cards etc now available.

Bin the old ones.

u.

Unanimous vote that we want Aìnè to be our regional rep.  Proposed Eddie Garnier, Seconded Donna.  Provision from Ian, if Aìnè is willing and if we all help her.  Suggestion as we already have delegates to go to NC meetings they now accompany Aìnè

10.6.2000 – Paul (Chippenham)

12.8.2000 – Eddie & Mark

17.10.2000 – Bill

Set aside time in the next meeting that Ainé (if she accepts) can tell us what help she needs/wants – and we will do it!

v.

Swindon Mag – Julian Maull is willing to try and get it going again.  He has been a member of Glos Mag for a number of years but has recently married and moved to Swindon.  The first meeting will be Wednesday 26th April 2000 at The Check Inn, on the Wroughton Road near Old Town Julian’s phone number is 01723 790880, 3 Greenaway, Wanborough, Swindon. SN4 0TW

Andover Mag although a different region know a lot of the bikers in Swindon and have offered help.

The rest of the region must give as much support as we can.  Julian is to get in touch with Bill.  Bill is to liase with Andover or give contact to Julian.

w.

Andy needs content for Regional Web site – it gets people interested and he needs e-mail contacts for reps and also active group members.

Andrew@anvil.org is Andy’s email for any information etc.  Please send it to him.
