5. Reps Reports

Swindon (Trace)New venue: The Brown Jack, Wroughton. AGM is 6th July. The group ‘trike project’ met a swift demise when it blew up! Numbers attending growing – 17 at last meeting.

NotAvon (Ed)next meeting: Salutation at Gib near Castle Combe – 1st Tuesday of July.

Bristol (Ed) – Suspension bridge negotiations to remove bike toll are still on-going with the Trustees. The present status quo is that people who operate the barriers are not able to or are unwilling to adapt. Slidey tarmac – on the bend at Blackboy Hill tarmac has been laid which has grip in the wet but which has been proven to be slippery in the dry. This condition lasts for about 2 years after surface is laid. This tarmac has already been banned by Ireland [post meeting note: this tarmac was the subject of a 30 minute programme on the BBC where examples were given of both bike and car drivers who have been killed due to this tarmac]. Non-Slip manhole covers (Rich Stiling’s baby) - Bristol City Council are interested in pursuing this and non-slip coverings is now moving onto the European agenda.

Venue is now back at the Mayors Arms. Boat Inn Run is 2nd July in Forest of Dean. Local events well attended. AGM date to be arranged [ post meeting note – 22nd September at the Mayors Arms].

Forest of Dean (Robbie) Couple of new faces at the group. Robbie worked a bit on the MAG stand at the Welsh Show where 40 new members were signed up, 600 raffle tickets sold, 50 FYP tickets and 12 renewals. Throttle and Bottle = 24/26 June.

A discussion ensued about the MAG logo being used by the organisers of the Welsh Show. Derwen reported back that Pete Walker had been asked to negotiate a price for use of the MAG logo on behalf of MAG. An agreement was ultimately reach with MAG National Chairman. The question was asked if this agreement was just for this year or whatever time limit.

Donna asked Derwen to go back to the Board/NC to see why such a low cost was agreed and how long the organisers of the show can use our logo for.

Bill suggested that an Observer volunteer to go along to the next NC as support for Derwen.

Mid-Wilts (Alan in Paul’s absence) Group now has a good turn out. (9th July is their Pet Food Run and Party. Meet Lysley Arms @ 12.00 for run. 16th July – Calne motorcycle and Family Day – stand space 3x3.

Glos MAG (Donna) – have been asked to put on a stand at the Blackwood Motorcycle Show (just north of Newport) on 9th July. Having a MAG stand at M&P was discussed, however, it was decided, that as the Region has so many commitments within its own borders, not to do this. Classic Bike Run – MAG stand at Upper Rissington on 3rd July. It was agreed to buy a 3x3 tent suitable for these events [post meeting note: Paul managed to get a good deal and this was ‘christened @ Upper Rissington].

It was noted that we need some banners made up.

It was suggested there should be an audit of regional MAG property carried out and all officers/reps were asked to bring details along to the next meeting.

Glos MAG AGM – 30th June at Pig in the City.

Cotswold Bike Nights are a big success. Donna introduced Les, a member who joined at the Bikesafe weekend.

Glos PTW Forum successful. Glos c.c. –distributing diesel stickers. Booklet produced on motorcycle rider education. Ride to Work – planned mass meeting of riders who will then go to their individual places of work.

Bikesafe – a letter of thanks had been received by Derwen. 2006 date is confirmed as 1&2 April at Cheltenham Racecourse.

Weston & North Somerset (Bill/George) – 19 had attended The Bell the previous week for the meeting. Bikefest 6th August – Marshalls required. GWR – 10/12 September, arrangements going well. Have been asked by RSPCA for help with the kennels and a pig roast scheduled to take place at Scallys on August Bank Holiday Sunday.
