Minutes of Western Region Committee Meeting
April 15th
2006
Duk Dik Rally
Attending:
Troll, Val, Di, Bill, Eddie, Robbie, Trace, Kath, Andy, Paul S & Anne
Apologies:
Stuart; Taff/Paul M.
Officers Reports
- Troll = Things fairly quiet at the moment.
- Andy = UKIP Meeting & AGC Decision for MAG not to attend in an official capacity. Andy felt this topic had been hijacked by NFL at AGC. However, Bill & Anne explained that the reason for the AGC decision was that MAG had never, in its history, aligned itself with any one political party. That it had always been A-political and this is what prompted the decision AGC took.
- Val = giving cheque in the Products box dated January to Kath for banking into the account.
- Kath = Regional signatories for the account were now sorted and Di’s name/details had been added as the 4th signatory making it much easier to get cheques signed/paid quicker.
Reps Reports
Ed = Bristol/NABD Party had raised in the region of £160 each for MAG & NABD.
Concern was expressed about the fact that Bristol MAG had no one contributing on email. Action: Ed to talk to Sian regarding contact for Bristol.
Robbie = Forest of Dean ticking along.
Swindon = ticking along. Good turnout @ Duk Dik.
W&NS = 2 more events on the calendar including 60’s party on May 20th.
Bikefest preparations underway.
Good turn out at Duk Dik.
Problems had been experienced whereby most establishments required £5m public liability insurance and yet MAG only supplied £2m. Action: Trace to take this up at NC Level.
May 10th – Bristol visiting W&NS for skittle match.
Anne had observed W&NS AGM. The AGM had produced 3 new committee members – officers without portfolio. Attendance was good.
W&NS would be attending the closer of the Bikenight events.
Glos MAG – Attendance hitting 20+. Doing Bikenight meetings.
Update from AGC
MAG has a new Chairman = Jane Chisholm.
Ed criticised the way the ballot was done for election of the Chair. Election boxes should not have been opened until both candidates had spoken to their nominations.
New Media Award – this year given to 100% Biker.
NEC – MAG has no stand due to the extortionate amount required by MCIA + membership of same.
UKIP Meeting – heated debate resulting in MAG withdrawing from attending officially to comply with AGC membership vote.
NC Report
Trace = email traffic horrendous.
NC Meeting prior to AGC had started late and concentrated on one issue only which was the reduced membership fee proposal to AGC. This proposal failed despite recommendations from the NC meeting.
Any Other Business
- Troll/Anne gave some background to their proposal which they had discussed during the journey back from AGC regarding a National Award for Donna. However, in the light of the terrible loss of Donna the day after AGC George and Anne felt they wanted to make the following proposal:
“That Western Region nominate Donna for the highest MAG Award – The Lifetime Achievement Award – in recognition of her superb work for MAG over many years.”
Proposed: Anne Gale. Seconded: George Legg
Unanimous Vote.
- Membership Database – Trace asked to stress via the NC the importance of updating the MAG Membership Database (that old chestnut)
- Paul informed us that this Duk Dik would be the last in memory of Donna as He, Nick & Bev felt they didn’t want to carry on organising the event without her.
- Calne Bike Show – contact Taff to book our stand space.
- Bristol Bike Show – MAG stand – me and the Troll
- Chipping Sodbury – don’t think its on. Trace to check with Alan Robertson.
- Upper Rissington Bike Show Action Paul S to talk to Kevin and get contact for us for a stand at this event.
- South West Custom and Classic Bike Show. At AGC Donna and Bill had spoken to Mike Baker to ask if he minded us putting on a MAG stand at the Show. Concern was expressed that there was only 2 weeks before the event. Action: Anne to ring Shepton & arranged stand space. Setting up a rota of helpers.
[Post meeting note: Anne had contacted Shepton. MAG stand is already booked by Roy Hills and passes going out to him on 19th May. Decided to meeting up at the Show for meeting and to help Roy out if he required it.]
- MAG Awareness Day(s) – Bristol having one on 6th May. W&NS to come along and see how its done so they can host one with a local dealer.
- MAG Stand – Region hoping to keep this within the Region for exhibiting at the shows/events. Action: Trace to take to NC.
- New Membership Forms & Temporary Membership Cards together with 300 copies of the Road.
Action: Anne to request forms & cards from Central.
Action: Trace to request that The Road be sent to his house.
[Post meeting note: Design ‘at the printers’ – these arrived May 11th!!]
- “What has MAG done for you?” – where is this? We need it for Shows etc. Good recruiting tool.
- Ed asked what the Region wanted to do with the old MAG Tent. It was decided to scrap the metal work and keep the yellow/black striped covering as it ‘may come in handy’.
