Pet Food Run

On August 1st there will be a pet food run starting at The Lysley Arms on the A4 outside of Chippenham, stating at 1pm sharp. The ride to the Wiltshire Wildlife Sanctuary will go via Devises, Tilshead and Stonehenge and ending at The Old Inn in Allington, the sanctuary is only a few yards down the road from the inn, and you are asked to leave your bikes at the inn so as not to scare the animals. All types of animal food will be welcome as will cash donations.

Bristol MAG

It is with deep regret that Stuart the Bristol MAG Rep has had to stand down for personal reasons, and so now Bristol MAG are seeking a new Rep to fill this position, so ably carried out by Stuart. So if anyone fancies the job please contact the Bristol MAG committee as soon as possible, it is not to onerous a job and you will have the support of a good bunch on the Bristol MAG committee.

Clifton Suspension Bridge

It appears that it is not the Bridge Trusties that are causing the problems over allowing bikes across free, but the Company responsible for maintaining the Barriers. For some reason they are dead against shortening the arms, but instead prefer to install a button that bikers can press to attract the attention of the Bridge attendants to open the barrier, which will require a refit as the current system is not geared up to.

Bristol Bike Forum

All you bikers that regularly travel through Bristol are asked to come up with (sensible) suggestions for the Forum to discuss with a view to implementing in and around Bristol. Do you want; more secure parking; bikes to go up to advance (cycle) stop lines; Bikes in all bus lanes or do you have any suggestions, if so please contact Andy at Bristol MAG A.S.P.

The Bristol Bike Show

Duk Dik Rally

Those hard working Chaps and Chapesses at Gloucester MAG deserve a well-earned pat on the back for their efforts in running this year‘s successful rally, which has raised just over £2000 for MAG. Well done Paul and Co.

MAG Foundation

The Foundation will be holding its first seminar on Saturday 18th September, at the Arts Centre of the University of Warwick, and will be looking at bike security and theft.

MAG Campaigns

There are two campaigns that those hard working chaps up at HQ want your help with, firstly the on-going Fairness and Transparency in Motor Insurance, and secondly Getting Bikes in HOV‘s (High Occupancy Vehicle Carpool Lanes), so please check out the MAG website to get all the info you need to write to your MP‘s or contact your group committee on both of these subjects, we need to keep the pressure on to get them to see reason.

Police Zapper

The boffins are at it again, now they are working on an electronic device that will stop fleeing drivers by directing a high frequency burst at the vehicle frying the internal electronics.
The device is to be tested by the police, which is effective on vehicles built in the last ten years that have electronic chips in the vehicles engine management system.
But what about innocent motorists within range of the zapper, will they get fried to?

£1.50-per-mile

A report from the DfT has suggested, as an option that motorists pay £1.50 per-mile road tolls, and to change the toll hour-by-hour with the highest charge at peak rush hour periods.
By 2014 according to experts all new vehicles will be fitted with chips allowing all roads to be priced, allowing drivers to be charged when and where they go at any time of the day.

Congestion Charging?

Will the threatened pay-per-mile be the death nail of many clubs and societies?
For those on low income, and there are many, will they be able to afford going to meetings or rallies? With the laughable public transport system we have in this country, many places are unreachable unless you have your own transport. Will it also mean that more people will fail to insure their vehicle just to be able to afford to go anywhere?
Have the people that came up with this idea really put any thought into what hardships that it would put people through, quite apart from the hike in inflation that will occur as costs and wage increases will occur just to get people to work or goods delivered.
