Glos MAG Party

Despite the atrocious weather, the dedicated partygoers descended on Glos MAG’s MISSEDTHECHRISTMASPARTY PARTY and had a good time thanks to the live band The Worried Men, Harley John drew the raffle and Sheila kept the Hot Dogs going along with tea and coffee for those who did not wish to imbibe. Thanks to every one involved.

Western Region AGM

On a very chilly Sunday afternoon the dedicated MAG members of the region gathered together at Glos MAG’s watering hole The Pig in the City.
Whereupon weighty issues were discussed and the regional officers were elected. All the Old hands were returned to office: Chairman Bill Pugsley; NC Liaison Derwen Hinds; Treasurer Kath Aldom; Webmaster Stuart Duckworth; Comms Andrew Meredith; Products Sheila Macintyre; Political George Legg; Admin Aine Gale; Events Paul Sysum.
Paul Sysum has also taken on the new post of Membership Secretary, so be warned if you fail to renew Paul will be after you! Brian Weekes has taken on the Clubs liaison Office, so if you know of any motorcycle clubs that might like to affiliate please let Brian have contact details. We also have a new face on the committee Dianne Williams as Minister without portfolio. Also Trevor Baird and Elaine Hardy attended from Central as observers, with Trevor giving a little talk on where MAG is going entitled Knocking at the Doors of Parliament. A Big Thanks must go to Glos MAG for hosting the AGM and the people who kept the tea and coffee going, also to those who prepared and served the food even if it was a little hot for some of us.

Night time speed checks

Avon & Somerset’s mobile speed cameras have been adapted to operate in the hours of darkness.
Since mid January the cameras have been operational checking the speed of nighttime drivers. A spokesman for the Safety Camera Partnership said: "Although only a quarter of collisions happen at night, they account for almost half of the fatalities and a third of serious injuries. Speed is a factor and a driver has less time to react to a situation good visibility, but at night has even less time to react."
Locations were cameras operate can be found on the partnerships website: www.safecam.org.uk

Insurance cost rise

£3 is to be added to every insurance premium to fund the cost of introducing new rules to protect customers from dodgy traders.
Companies selling all types of insurance from house to car and life policies will have to provide more detailed information to customers.
So instead of taking the costs out of their own profits, they are passing on the cost to us!

Middle class offenders

The more you earn will dictate how much you will pay in fines for offences after means testing according to a Government bill, which allows courts to use offenders income to set a fine. So the more you earn the more they will take!

Irish go Metric

If you are thinking of going to the emerald isle this year, beware, since mid January the Irish speed limits went metric. At the same time, the Irish Department of Transport says, "some speed limits will change. Trucks over 3.5 tonnes are limited to 80 kph, as are buses and coaches with more than eight passenger seats. Towing vehicles are limited to 80 kph too and double-deckers are limited to 65 kph."
There are new limits for cars too. More from http://www.transport.ie
