Well, the general election has come and gone, with one or two new faces on
the political scene within the Western Region of MAG.
But, will it make any
difference?
On the whole, probably not, as each election rolls by, politics
seems to be more about scoring points off of each other than actually running
the country! And this is where MAG comes in, as we must be ever alert for
the odd bits of legislation that do manage to rumble out of Whitehall, that may
affect us and our rights as motorcyclists.
If you have lobbied the candidates
and got them to reply to the questionnaire, then Well Done. But that’s not the
end to it, we now need to keep nagging away at them, they must never think we
will go away now the election is over, make them earn their position.
Mid Wilts MAG will be holding their second summer pet food run and their
first ever summer party on the 9th of July 2005, at the Lysley Arms, Pewsham,
Chippenham. Tickets are £5 each and live music will be from Local rock band
Paradox who will be playing 2, 1 hour sets, contact Taff on O78O3 974O88, for
more Info.
The Run will depart at 12 noon from the Lysley Arms car park
(Please have full TANKs before the Start), and travel down to the Wiltshire
Wildlife Hospital, just outside of Salisbury. Donations of food and monies are
most welcome.
The doors will open at 8pm for the Evening Do, being held in
the Stable Bar at the Lysley Arms, where there will be a Disco and live music. -
Taff.
Don’t fall over in shock, but some brief notes from Swindon MAG:
After a
few meetings, we now seem to be properly settled at our new meeting place - The
Brown Jack pub in Wroughton (details on websites around the region), with use of
the skittle alley when we need it (although there does seem to be a lack of
balls - Julian resorted to using Mark’s dog to try to knock down the skittles at
the last meeting). We have adopted a wildlife sanctuary in Swindon as our
‘official’ charity. We are hoping to organise a small food run to the sanctuary
soon - more details when they become available.
The date for the 2005
Swindon MAG AGM is Wednesday 6th July at The Brown Jack. - Trace.
Fowler’s car park, or part of it, played host to our MAG tent with plenty of
willing bodies from Bristol MAG lending a hand to Clare, Tim & Andy
who’d
organised the whole thing.
Just ‘being there and chatting’, to people
resulted in 16 new memberships - not bad. Bristol tends to have an Awareness
Day every year but we’ve never had that many people joining up. Let’s hope this
is indicative of an upward turn for membership in general - Aine.
Donna, as usual, organised us a stand space, with Bev, Skid & myself in
assistance.
Last year - blazing sunshine & lots of shiny bikes on show
& many visitors. This year - cold & often wet (very) with not many show
bikes and even less visitors. Nevertheless, the quality of what was on show was
good and our own Pete Smith walked off with Best Rat. This year’s profits were
in aid of the Freewheelers.
Normally there is a band in the hall creating a
great atmosphere but this year the organisers, CMA, felt, as the cost ate into
the profits they wouldn’t hire one. Whilst I understand their predicament, I
feel the show needs this atmosphere.
There must be a band out there willing
to give up their time for petrol costs and a couple of pints for a worthwhile
charity? - Aine.
Ever been caught short? Well help is at hand, as a British couple have
created the first in car toilet!
The Indipod, billed as the ‘sanitary
sanctuary’, has an inflatable cubicle, which is inflated via a fan plugged into
the cigarette lighter.
The inventers recently drove from John O’Groats to
Italy without getting out of the car. At £295, they have already sold 200 since
November.
On Thursday 30th June 2005, Glos MAG will hold their AGM at the Pig In The
City, commencing at 8.15pm promptly Anyone wishing to resign from there posts,
etc please let the Glos MAG Committee know in writing, also if they are not
going to be present at the AGM..
Anyone with anything to discuss, offer to
take on a role, have a service they can offer please come along or contact us.
Everyone is welcome - Donna.
Well, their back at the Mayors Arms again! The pub has re-opened and the new landlord invited them to meet there, so from Thursday 5th May they’ll be meeting there. The AGM will be soon. It has been postponed for a short while for Bristol MAG to sort out the venue.
