Western Region AGM 2006

Dedicated MAG members gathered at the Mayors Arms in Bristol for the Regional AGM on a somewhat chilly Sunday in January, and got down to the business of the day.
The present committee members were re-elected and the officers are; Chairman, Bill Pugsley; NC Liaison, Derwen Hinds; Webmaster, Stuart Duckworth; Communications, Andy Meredith; Products, Valarie Squire; Political, George Legg; Regional Events, Paul Syson; Admin, Aine Gale; Committee Member, Di Williams.
The post of Clubs Officer has not been filled, so if any one wishes to have a go at this important post please contact us.

Richard Stiling gave a talk on the Manhole Campaign and the success that has seen Bristol City Council decide to use manhole covers with friction content in the redevelopment of the Broadmead area in Bristol, he also spoke on The Bristol Bike Show, and how he thinks this event will proceed forward as it gets larger every year.
Richard was also given an award for his outstanding work, which he richly deserves. Well done Richard.

The remaining business was reasonably quickly dealt with, and it was decided to allow the Regional Committee to purchase a 3m x 3m Marquee probably in MAG colours for use at shows and events to give the region a more professional look when recruiting new members. Also concerns were voiced about The Road, and these concerns are to be taken up at NC.

Operation Jensen Interceptor

Police in North Somerset have carried out stop checks to target travelling criminals.
Operation Jensen Interceptor took place on Thursday 19 January 2006 and involved officers from the Road Policing Unit. High profile police checks were set up on the A369 and police made use of the automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system to help identify vehicles used by known offenders.
Some 3,225 vehicles travelled past the checkpoints. 96 vehicles alerted the system as being of interest to the police.
In one incident, a man was arrested and charged with driving whilst disqualified. In another a person was arrested after being identified as being wanted on warrant following the system alerting the officer that there was not a valid road tax for the vehicle.
A spokesperson for Nailsea police said: “The operation was a great success; we will continue to use all the resources and specialist equipment we can to target offenders. “Operation Jensen was launched to respond to vehicle crime, and further operations are planned in the future”.
