Regional Committee

There have been some changes on the Regional Committee front.  Derwen proffered his resignation, which the committee regrettably accepted thanking him for his work for MAG in the long term past.  A new NC Liaison, in the form of Trace, who is also Swindon Group Rep, was voted into post as co-opted NC Liaison to represent the Region at National level.

Bill (Committee Chairman) and Di (without portfolio) also had their resignations on the table, which, in the interests of uniformity to allow us to constitutionally move on, the Committee accepted.

With the NC post having been filled via a paper ballot, the committee then asked Bill if he would step back into his position as Committee Chairman which he did after a paper ballot to decide between two nominees.

Di returns to the Committee in the role of Regional Membership Officer.

For the Regional Committee its ‘business as usual’. Aine.

New drive to tackle tax dodgers

POLICE in Bristol seized 11 cars and two motorbikes during a drive to put the brakes on insurance and tax dodgers.
Officers from the force's Road Policing Unit carried out a special operation in the South Bristol, Stapleton Road and North Somerset areas.
Officers were making use of the high-tech ANPR system (automatic number plate recognition).
This was used to help identify cars which might be driven by people who are flouting the law.
A total of six people were arrested – two on suspicion of being disqualified drivers, one for possession of an offensive weapon, one who was wanted on warrant, one for theft from a shop and one for failing to stop for police.
Officials from the DVLA took one vehicle off the road for having no tax. A total of 11 cars and two motorbikes were seized from people who did not have an appropriate licence or who had no insurance.
Inspector Mark Bentley of the Road Policing Unit, said: "This operation was conducted under the banner of Operation Relentless, the force's on-going campaign to catch criminals and increase public reassurance in policing.
“We take all crime seriously.
“People who flout vehicle insurance laws, for example, can end up to contributing to higher premiums for law-abiding drivers.
“In some circumstances we now have the power to seize, and even destroy, vehicles and we are not going to be shy about using these powers.
“Avon and Somerset police are relentless against all criminals, and we are determined to do everything we can to stop criminals having an adverse affect on abiding people, and also to ensure that our roads are safer.
“This day of action was such a success that we will do more throughout the force area in the future." Avon Somerset Police.
