Ded Duk Rally

The 2007 rally was a great success with over 400 people enjoying the wonderful Easter weather. We are starting to plan next years rally, so watch this space. Many thanks to everyone who helped at this years rally. Especially to Nic, Bev, Pete, Fea, Den and Phil. They spent several weeks before hand preparing for the event and then more afterwards. Also thanks to those who gave their time to help with bar work, marshalling, first aid and control duties. The rally could not be held without your support. Finally thanks to all of you, who attended this year, making the rally an annual special event in the biking calendar. Glos MAG

AGC Items

Non-Slip Manhole Covers

David Short was questioned at the end of his Report to AGC as to what was happening re the Motion passed in 2002 making this a National Campaign. He confirmed that he had spoken to the appropriate Civil Servant and this was progressing. I have asked for this Ministers name since but have received no reply as yet. I will update Bristol when I have the information.
Speaking to Spider about it he feels that this should be a Campaign, as adopted at AGC 2002, whereby Regions, Groups etc., lobby their MPs. To this end I will speak to Andy Derrett (who has worked with the appropriate Bristol Council people) and see where we go from here.

Motion to AGC 2007

The Motion I put forward, after discussion within the Regional Committee, asking that Regions or Groups putting on a MAG Stand at an event should not have to pay for Public Liability Insurance to MAG Central was passed almost unanimously. I argued in my supporting words to the Motion that this was free publicity for MAG, non-money making and as such volunteers should not have to pay for exhibiting when they were trying to recruit members. This means that if your Group or Region is putting on a MAG stand at an event then you should submit a completed risk assessment form (available from Central) to Central Office no later than 14-21 days prior to the event. You will not be invoiced & should receive your certificate of cover before exhibiting. There are people within the Region who can help you fill out one of these forms. It is important to note that this is only for exhibiting and publicising MAG. If you are putting on a Party, Rally or whatever -this is (hopefully) a fundraising event and as such you must pay for cover to Central. Again please submit your risk assessment forms within the time period prior to the event as requested.

Krissie Willis Appeal

Although the Krissie Willis Stem Cell Appeal is not a MAG event, out of courtesy I wanted to update you insofar as the account will soon be closing. I will be paying in the last donations -courtesy of Bill & Di's wedding present list -and the total collected is £1721.70. Very many thanks for the support you've given Ed, Cal & myself in this venture. There will, of course, be a bit in The Road. Meanwhile my sincere thanks to Sian for examining and signing off the Accounts for the Appeal -very much appreciated. Aine

Bristol Bike Show

Sadly there is to be NO bike show this year. Rich Stiling, Clare & Sian from Bristol have been steadily liasing with Bristol City Council.

Sadly, because the Council wanted to fill St Nicholas Street with stalls with no room for bikes, R, C & S felt they couldn't hold the Show this year, as we couldn't accommodate the thousands of bikes that turn out for this event. Spoke to Sian & Clare on Saturday at Bristol's MAG Awareness Day and the Party will still go ahead. Sian pointed out that this is their main fundraiser for MAG so it will still happen in its usual format BBQ, Camping etc. So please Guys put this in your diary and spread the word that it is still happening on 18th August and I will get info to you A.S.A.P. We need this supported as much, if not more than ever for the sake of a good donation to MAG. They are working towards a return of this Show in 2008. Meanwhile could you please keep the party on your events lists and web sites. Many thanks, Aine
