As you all may have noticed, it’s been a touch damp of late!
Unfortunately this has caused problems for fellow MAG members and two rallies.
Two of Glos MAG were flooded out of their homes in Gloucester, also other Glos MAG members are (at the time of writing) without water or power, it is hoped that things will soon be back to normal.
The A38 MCC rally that was to be held at Court Farm on the 20-22 July had to be moved at the last minute due to water logging of the camping area.
The A38er’s did well to move to the White Lion in Cambridge on the A38, and still have a reasonably good time. Glos MAG went along to show support after they had rung themselves out.
However The Mingers rally at Lower Lode just outside of Tewkesbury was hardest hit as the Severn burst its banks and flooded the campsite.
It is believed 4 bikes were lost and some tents, rallyists going to the rally found themselves cut off from the campsite and roads being closed behind them.
One of our members caught up in the flood was offered refuge by locals but ended up helping to rescue their belongings as the floodwater kept rising. Here is what Glos MAG member Den has to say:
We’re doing ok. Two of our members that I know of so far have been flooded out and had to leave home. The pub we meet in has been flooded.
A lot of us have no water (me included) and did loose power for a bit. It’s a bit of a nightmare but we’re coping. We have found a new pub that we are going to try out tonight anyway so will let you know how it goes.
The Mingers rally at the Lower Lode was a bit of a wash out. Apparently 4 Bikes were lost in the floods and they had to be evacuated.
Bev still has water so as you can imagine her shower is getting good use. Mind, I think that’s because she can’t put up with the smell.
If the pub works out I think we might be putting on a skittle match (yes there is an alley) and might raise funds for the flood appeal. No excuses for no one coming cause there’s a big car park and it’s in the city centre amazing isn’t it?
To cheer us all up Glos MAG got best turned out club at the A38ers rally so we have a lovely new plaque to go in our new pub See you all soon. Den
The location of the stand was a bit out of the way in a small car park off the main road; however, the green where we were last year was sodden.
3 memberships were taken, one being a renewal the others new members, and some interest was shown in the Bristol bike show party, GWR and the run from the Lyseley Arms on the following day.
There were some very tasty bikes on show so all in all it was a good day out. If you haven’t paid a visit to this event yet, I would recommend you put it on the to do list for next year. Bill P
